HOW WE CAN HELP

Music in Dementia (MiD) is a collaborative network of academics, musicians, health and care professionals, and people living with dementia who all hold an interest in the use of music in dementia care. The network exists to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers by promoting the use of music and offering people with dementia increased access to music-based activities and groups.

Whilst there is a wealth of evidence to support the benefits of music for people with dementia MiD has identified current issues regarding the lack of awareness, funding, and staff training for implementing music-based initiatives in care environments.

Our work is underpinned by the following key values:

  • Integration of music into care settings
  • Fair pay for artists
  • Co-production and co-creation with people with dementia and their carers
  • Empowerment of staff, carers, people with dementia, and musicians
  • Achieving sustainability
